a quick comment while drinking a pina colada... if Vegas wins the cup..i don't know how i'm going to react to it.. i mean... come on.. An expansion team, using dumb expansion draft rules, to get into the SCF ? And George McPhee now thinks he is the best GM while never accomplished anything in Washington. .....And our team struggling to be decent again... Why should i deal with this GDamn stupid league who allow draft like that Now..Watch for Seattle, when they get a team, to be another SC contender... playing Vegas in the final !! i'm not feeling well about this whole thing...

I'm pulling for Vegas to win the cup. I initially wanted Tampa Bay to represent the East but now that their series will have a 7th game I wan't the caps to win the east and lose to Vegas in the final Alse with the current expansion rule Vegas wasn't build like other expansion teams.

So it's Washington and Vegas in the Cup Final. Never would have guessed that at the start of the year. I was hoping for Tampa to win it all as I thought if Yzerman won there then he could move on in a year or two to Detroit. Now he probably thinks he has some unfinished business in Florida.
Vegas will be well rested but Washington looks to be on a mission. Caps in six games. O.V. is a beast at 250 pounds and is knocking down everything in his way. Should be interesting.

Well, if memory serves me correctly the Red wings were supposed to get 4 full days off before the Stanley cup final in 2009 but Butthead Bettman changed the ruling on that. Wings were furious as they were dealing with a number of injuries and they could have used the rest but the change would help Crosby and his number one fan Bettman. That series still bugs me with all the help the Pens got.
I hope the current final is entertaining and I sense it will be.

But for my sanity i refuse to believe Bettman did that to help Crosby...

Kind of makes you think there may have been some validity in Bettmans "Special Rules" rumored at the time. Same deal with not handing Malkin an automatic 1 game suspension for starting a fight at the end of a game or no penalty on cross check to the head of a player just returning from concussion (Franzen), or not calling Too Many Men call when 6 skaters for 40 seconds on the ice -- the ref just tells their bench and lets play resume, or puck off netting and telling the bench they have to get a guy off the ice...all just coincidence

The Malkin situation was the worst. It was supposed to be automatic. It's as if a defenseman shoots a puck over the glass from his own end and Bettman decides that this time it won't be a penalty. It's automatic with a twist.

I am fine with Vegas winning the cup, but NHL prestige would suffer in my opinion. It does not feel right when a new team withe players not known to many fans (I had no idea who William Karlsson is until this season for example and barely heard the names of their dmen) can just win the cup in its first year. It just feels the league is not serious enough. And how about Nosek with a game winning goal yesterday. He is not a star, but our 4th line could have been better than it is now at 10% of the cost. I am OK with Caps winning the cup also. I like Trotz and Ovechkin seems like a nice guy who plays the game with so much joy. I definitely rooted against Tampa because I normally root against the favourites and I do not like Cooper, he looks so much full of himself.

So the first two games are split and it's 1-1 Vegas and Caps I haven't heard about how serious the Kuznetsov's injury is and that could be the difference but the Caps now have two games in their house. Game three is going to be big.

Just got home from Spain and I my watch the game tonight. If I can stay up that late. Yawnnnn ....
I'm still for the Caps.
Agree with Vpalmer - if some expansion team wins the "hardest championship to win" with a bunch of players unheard of to the casual fan it just somehow detracts from the sport. Others may make an argument to the opposite, but we are more "purists" on this board.

Congratulations to the Capitals!
I didn't watch a single playoff game for the first time in my life that I can remember.. so probably age 5 or so.
Have a great summer everyone!

Congrats to the Capitals. They were the better team in the end and O.V. can celebrate as a premier player in the game. Vegas paid 500 million for a franchise compared to 6 million when the Caps started. ( 6 mill is about 30 mill in today's dollars). So any new franchise will be a playoff contender from day one now. Don Cherry was trying to convince Butthead that Quebec City needs a team. I couldn't agree more.
Next up ... the draft.
