Buyout date info . the NHL's buyout period provides general managers an opportunity to get out from under bad contracts, for a price. On June 15 or 48 hours after the end of the Stanley Cup Final, whichever comes latest, the buyout period opens and leads in to the busy early-summer period. www.nhlnumbers.com/buyout-calculator/detroit-red-wings-contractsIt will be interesting to see what Stevie Y decides to do. Maybe he won't buy anyone out this year and possibly trade veteran players but keep part of the salary in the same way the Wings traded Nyquist. Helm, Abby, Neilsen are three candidates for that type of trade or possibly buyouts. Yzerman won't do a deal just for the sake of making a deal. Wings fans will be patient especially for year one of GM Yzerman. On a side note - with four teams left in the playoffs I am liking the chances of the Blues. That would be quite a story since they were in last place in the NHL at one point when they brought up Binnington (sp?). They are tied with the Leafs as a team going the longest without winning a Cup. That would be another slap in the face of Leaf nation. Speaking of the leafs, they have to shed 20 million in Cap space as Marner and Matthews will no longer be making 850 k a year with new contracts. Matthews is making 10 or 11 mill a year and Marner will get about the same. That's a lot of lost depth. It's another example of why the Wings need to shed some dollars and use the cap space wisely.
