It really has felt like Hockeytown at the Red Wings' new home the last few days. After the Wings dispatched the Penguins on New Year's Eve.
And now, the Wings are back on home ice tonight against the Senators, who have come away with 13 of a possible 36 points on the road this season.
Not too many changes....

We closed the year out with a W, lets start the new year with another WIN -- which would extend our winning streak to 3 games...something we haven't did at all after 3 months of hockey.
One thing I have noticed is a lot of teams go on winning streaks and losing streaks. We've only had losing streaks. I'd love to see us go on 6-7 game streak of winning. One thing so far, we are consistently inconsistent in the winning department. The record is what we are but I honestly feel we're a better team than 15-16-7. We're just fragile in confidence and burdened with an inept coach who doesn't know how to use personnel to retain leads. We've had plenty of 1 goal games an OTL's and not blown out of a lot of games so it gives me some hope. If we can get rid of Blashill and some new blood in the org (sorry KH, its time to move on).

3 in a row would be nice for sure. A lot of games within this game tonight. How long will AA play with Dylan and Tatar ? Mantha on the 4th line - can he score on the 4th ? This Ottawa team is in a much darker place than we are - are they going to outwork us ? Can Howard pull out another one ?
On the bright side - I think we have more points than Montreal does - how bad are those fans hurting right now. Let's win this one for the Habs Fans !

I thought I heard them saying Ottawa was a game away from the finals so yeah, a hard fall for sure. Montreal is as well. This is what happens when you put all your eggs in the goaltender basket. Price injury and not getting on track the entire team suffers.

What a game by AA....could have had 5 or 6 if not for some stellar goaltending from Anderson.

Not much icetime for FRk in the second half of the game, same for Mantha. I though they look good early. Z's line was atrocious but they never missed a shift. Z look geriatric tonight.
Howard ..rock solid. Lil Bert ? humm...maybe that all mighty comment to get his own place was a bit premature ? It's not like he is the second coming of Gordie Howe, specially after just one good game.
I also it's time to break Nielsen-Helm-Abby line who didnt look good tonight, instead give a ton of ice to Mantha and Frk, they won't do worst.

Wings screwing themselves.Headed for the lower half of the pack and mediocre draft picks. Know it is not pleasant to tank but they NEED TOP talent to contend. Doesn't look like they will get great players anytime soon:(

As much as my head says these wins are bad for the franchise long term, my heart wants them to win every game. And they are playing really well in the last several games. And what a show by AA.

After watching the replays from the game - having watched it live on Sportsnet "The Caesars Palace Arena" buddy called it - I was almost giddy watching how many times AA got loose in this game - let alone the Penalty Shot ! I can't honestly say I saw Pavel Bure get in alone that many times in one game - and he was maybe the fastest ever ! And the posts we banged all night.
Couldn't agree more with the Frk comment Pierre. Got a good assist, almost scored soon thereafter, in the first - all to play little after that. What happened to using him in the PP ? I know we didn't have much opportunity on PP last night - but he's gotta be a part of that. How about giving him the same opportunity as lil Bert in terms of minutes ?
Anyways - don't want to rant too much after a win. There's plenty of time left for that. But I promise to stop all rants for the rest of the season if they'll just fire Blashill and hire Dave Tippett. Nothing personal Blash - I just don't waste a chance in bringing along the talent that we have and will most likely have for some time. With better coaching we'd be in a playoff spot. We have that much talent I think.

What are the odds of Blas getting fired? 1% ? 5%? 10%? Admit I haven't followed the team closely at all this season but I have not heard any talk of canning him. Surely this little run won't help those who blame him(I blame the lack of talent) for the teams failures.

I would agree with Pierre and say that if the team plays hard, Blashill is safe. And there is very little reason to fire him now. Next summer we might have a new GM, so I am sure he might want a new coach also.

Worst case scenario is they play well enough to be the team just shy of getting in the playoffs.
