The Detroit Red Wings have lost nine in a row in the regular season against the Lightning, gaining only one of a possible 18 points during that stretch. Including the playoffs, Tampa Bay has beaten Detroit in 13 of their past 14 meetings.
The Red Wings will try to snap that streak Sunday at Little Caesars Arena in their final game before a five-day "bye week."
The good news is Detroit (17-16-7) has won a season-high four in a row and five consecutive home games. The bad news is, the player most responsible for this run, goaltender Jimmy Howard, is out with a lower-body injury.
Petr Mrazek will make his first appearance since a 6-3 victory Dec. 19 at the New York Islanders. Mrazek is 1-7-1 during the regular season against the Lightning,
He's played well against them in the playoffs The Red Wings might be facing backup goalie Louis Domingue, since Andrei Vasilevskiy is scheduled to start Saturday night in Ottawa.

Hope we can break the losing streak against Tampa Bay. As I recall we usually play a decent game against them, they just beat us.
We won 4 in a row.
They lost 2 in a row and played last night.
I haven't see any line combos yet other than Mrazek starting because Howard has a lower body injury...

Tampa Bay has the Wings number. Put in a backup goalie and get outshot almost 2 to 1 and still winning by 3 late in the 3rd. Opportunistic team and they are at the top of the league for a reason.
A few days off for the Wings as they don't play until next Saturday.

I liked today’s effort. I honestly think we are becoming a better team and Blashill is becoming a better coach. And I really dislike this Tampa team starting with Cooper.

Yep to all of that - and "really dislike" is a total understatement for me. Saw a little too much of #8 late for my liking. Once he scored his goal play the odds and sit him for 3 games.

Why the need to ALWAYS start a PP with Z-NY-Abby line ? Is this a written contract or Something ? I can understand when larks line is not available but tonight it was not always the case.
And why the need to ALWAYS use Abby as the net front guy ? a place where he is absolutely no good, other than to block shots of his teammates.
Wouldnt it hurt the team if Blashill would sometimes try Mantha as the net fron guy ?? Something he did pretty good early in the season. But for Blashill Mantha is in the doghouse, and looking at Mantha again tonight he has lost all confidence, passe when he should shoot, and shoot when he should be passing.
I saw the ballet Nutcracker....the lead star is Mrazek...
A true ballerina in goal, always caught outside from his blue. If he goes out to cover the angles he can't come back. Domingue on the other side was always deep, never overcommitting.
Also funny that XO is good for the first part of the game but never good enough for later. What Jensen has done for us lately ?
Anyways the effort was ther again tonigth...can't win them all. Some décisions by our "thinkers" were part of the reason for this lost.

I actually think with Abby as a net-front presence on the PP he blocks more goals than bounce off him. I saw one last night, I think it was a Green shot, would have hit the twine if it didn't hit Ab-duh-kader...at least he got it back.
I liked ou moxie and not backing down. Although I don't want to see Larkin fight it was nice to see him stand up for himself and throw punches.
Officiating was bad, especially on the icing call that Helm clearly negated then Nielsen lost the draw cleanly a Kucherov scores an insurance goal making ti a 2 goal lead. I also agree with Mick that Mrazek was interfered with but it was a 50-50 call we lost.
Yet another cardinal sin goal given up with 59 seconds to go in period 2.
No games for us this week until Saturday..silly 5 day bye break

I am glad Girardi is OK, but I thought that was a turning point of the game. We lost all the momentum after that. Larkin's fight was also a turning point, we were just a much better team after that fight.

If you can't get your stick on the ice and get position and keep your eye on the puck. then you're just another obstacle for the puck on the way to the net. Abby just kinda stands there jostling around with everyone. For a while it looked like everything directed at the net went off of him.

Controversial statement, but I think Blashill has been a better coach in the last month or so.

Controversial statement, but I think Blashill has been a better coach in the last month or so. very controversial indead... One of my resolution of 2018 is to be kind to my buddy Vadim...so yes..Blashill has been a better coach, but between you and me it takes so long for him realize the need to adjust/change his strategy... Just for this i think i might already cheat on my resolution..you are wrong Vadim...Blashill is not a better coach !...a better coach adjust faster. By the way my buddy Gerard Gallant is doing fine in Vegas, just imagine this guy with the Wings, like he should have been.

Larkin and AA playing 20 minutes per night is already a huge step in the right direction for me. Larkin becoming a real complete player, partially on the coach. Abby is not in top 6, good also. The compete level is there every game, that's at least partially on the coach. Transition game is definitely better lately. Obviously there a lot of things Blashill is doing wrong (in our opinion), but overall I see progress.
