via Dan Rosens twitter: Brendan Smith has been put on waivers by the Rangers. He’s in the first year of a 4-year, $17.4 million contract. He isn’t on the ice for practice.

I think its a bit funny that they give him $4.35 mil for 4 years and then waive him 5-6 months into his contract. I wouldn't want him for that salary for the remaining 3 years on his deal.

The waiver rules on salary and playing time make it hard to want to pick up anyone being waiver. But if you say a guy looks good averaging 20 minutes when you got him...then you’re only playing him somewhere between 10 and 15 out the gate, then that’s one of those sports paradoxes.
Glen Sather wouldn’t have given him that deal based on 18 games and some playoffs especially with what they gave Shattenkirk only to see him on IR.

i wonder which team has the record for the most players waived in the last 10 years....
Could it be the Rangers ? ..the Flyers ? Some teams don't hesitate, when its time to waive..they waive !
I'd love KH to be a bit like this too..
