The Detroit Red Wings host the Toronto Maple Leafs this evening
Toronto has won 9 of its past 11 games, but the Leafs dropped a 5-3 decision to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday; the Red Wings defeated the Nashville Predators on Saturday night, but the Wings need to be aware of Auston Matthews (who Terry Koshan reports has a 40% shooting percentage against Detroit) and company as the Leafs will bring their speed game to Detroit.
Neither team held a morning skate (Toronto got into town around 1 AM and Detroit didn’t return home until 2 AM) so, to tide you over:

Hey Pierre, I'm still here and like the board. Don't post as much I guess. Seems like we're just saying the same stuff over and over. Blash sucks, Abby/Hank/Kron get too much ice time, etc, etc etc. I'm probably more interested in the off season than the regular season right now.

Pretty good game! Love original 6 matchups. Always love these seeing two teams go at it...big rivalry. Plus it’s awesome memories as a kid growing up there when you only got Wings games from channel 50 in Detroit and Leafs on Ch 9 CBC Plus the good times as a player on the road trips to Toronto area over the years. Bingo! Mantha tip in off a Nyquist shot!

this is a major downer...really.
Good intense game overall but sooo many bonehead plays here and there, bad passes, bad defensive plays. But the intensity is there, but not the structure, unity.
And tell me...don't want to complain again on our loveable Math teacher behind the bench....
BUT
Why play AA with 30 seconds to go and a face-off deep in our zone ? I'm all for playing AA regularly..but not when Matthews is on the ice and about 30 seconds.
Major downer again..now they can trade whoever they want, i'm sure KH was hesitating thinking we still have a chance to get into playoffs.
Not anymore, we are simply not the same team at home, we have lost too many points at LCA.

I thought we played a fairly decent game and should have gotten at least a point out of it. To lose like that with 30 ticks on the clock hurts. We made costly mistakes that we seem comfortable with.
This team the last couple of season has Cardinal Sin issues where we get scored way too damn much in the opening and closing 2 minuets of periods and games. Larkin screwed up by icing the puck and then soft on the puck battle after the draw that sets up the game winner. DeKeyser should NOT have left Matthews open like that. I haven't replayed it but I believe it was Nylander carrying the puck from the corner towards the front of the net and it looks to me that AA would have had him covered or at least impede him from getting to the front of the net.
This actually was a pretty good weekend for us. We played hard, were engaged/intense, we just made a few costly bone-headed mistakes.

Hey, guys, it's been a while for me. Had some computer issues but had not been coming to this board as often anyway.
Pierre's survey reminded me that we have all been strong Wings' fans for a long time and a few of us are still hanging around. One thing I have always liked about our group is that people generally disagree respectfully and that's important to me. I frequent the mLive board but a few posters are constantly disparaging each other and it takes away from the fun of reading or posting, even if you scroll through.
For me, every win by Mrazek is bittersweet but I want him to do well because he WAS the future and somehow the future got screwed up. He is not blameless but the management of this team is at its worst right now, unless you go back to the dark years. I dislike the way the coach handles the team and blame him, in part, for the third period collapses. Sure, the guys on the ice need to perform but the coach deploys them and he is constantly overusing some or deploying the wrong players at the wrong time.
Losses don't guarantee a top pick in the draft but I do hope it ultimately gets Blashill fired and KH fired or moved upstairs. The team needs to move some of its vets, even if salary is retained, as I see the vets being a major impediment to developing young guys. That won't translate into wins right away but the current older core is going to handicap this organization for a few more years if they don't do it.
