I'm telling ya Larkin is the player we build around until we land one better that him As much respect I have for Hank with him out it allows Larkin leadership role to strive as well as keeps him at the center position where he needs to be in my opinion. The kid rarely takes a shift off, he's winning key faceoffs, playing key minutes and still producing. Just put the "C" on the kids sweater already. Larkin as a person/young man is really well balanced, he was raised right so when Hank playing Larkin respected the hierarchy so he'd defer to Z as to not step on toes. He's free to grab the bull by the horns. Larks is in hs 4th season and the game will still slow down a bit for him...meaning he's still going to get better or reading anticipating play so his game IQ will go up. I shared my views on not having a captain, I hate that as that is what teams that are lost or no real identity or is in a disarray. I don't know why it bugs me so much, its tradition I guess and to me almost like changing our team color or winged wheel insignia. Its good to see Nyquist get going, for being fairly invisible a good portion of the season so far he is tied for points on the team with larkin at 26 points in 29 games. I think what we saw was disrespect by the Leaf's. They thought they'd walk all over us and were not ready to rock (how we were a lot under Babcock too) and thought they could take the night off, a casual home game and just beat us on the impressive skill they have...they almost did but slept too long before "flipping the switch".

Starting their backup goalie is further evidence they thought no problem tonight getting two points.

It was a great effort by the squad....especially Larkin and Nyquist. There are times out there that AA looks like he's one of the best players in the league....McDavid is probably the only faster player in the whole league. I wish we could see AA do that kind of stuff all game long....there are long stretches where you don't notice him which is surprising for a guy of his all world skill set. I know we were down Bertuzzi and Mantha, but we had about 5 forwards out there that don't look like they belong in the NHL. I know we have high hopes for Rasmussen, but I just don't see it. Somebody said earlier in the year that he is getting better every game but in my view he barely affects the game at all. He's big, but he's slow and has very little mobility, which is the kiss of death in today's game. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see him being a consistent point producer.
I live 45 minutes outside of Toronto and there was a fair amount of talk today about Kronwall's hit on Matthews. It was definitely a cheap hit, but not nearly as bad as they were making it out to be. Matthews has a history of getting hurt after seemingly minor collisions, so the fans and the talking heads in Toronto get really nervous any time somebody lays a hit on him.

Raz is 19 years old. He is a project. This year they let him play without asking too much in return. Next year we shall expect more and will get more.

Yes, he's only 19, but he was drafted 9th overall in the same draft 2 years ago that Petterson was taken 5th. And Petterson is already a budding superstar. I just don't think Rasmussen moves well enough to be a big factor.

I just don't think Rasmussen moves well enough to be a big factor. here's the deal. Wait till they play him a center to really judge him. He is a natural center who doesn't play where he should. Next year he will play at center...we shall see… Overall right now to me is not a disappointment, not a Pleasant surprise either. Just a player who is trying to learn how to be a Red Wings… i like what i see and expect something...next year.
