Both Helm and Athanasiou are on the ice. So AA is back. The Wings had to travel TODAY ...thank you NHL !
RedWings in morning skate:
Abdelkader-Larkin-Nyquist Vanek-Nielsen-Bertuzzi Athanasiou-Glendening-Rasmussen Ehn-de la Rose-Frk/Megan
Cholowski-Daley Kronwall-Jensen Ericsson-Hronek Witkowski
Of course Abby MUST remains with Larks and Gus...he's got a contract just to play with them !
Murray against Howard i presume.

Another pitiful performance. Back to rooting for a higher draft position?

Another game totally on the coach. How many minutes did Abby get? That should about sum it up ....

Good start, faced a Pens goalie (and his goal posts) who made many good saves and our goalie didnt. That's basically the game. Then we gradually lost confidence starting mid game. I Don't agree to replace your goalie with an extra attacker with 3;30 to play, wait a couple more minutes to see if you can get a goal then you lift your goalie. That 5th Pens gaol was too easy.
Anyway the effort at the start was there then gradually vanished with our confidence. We have become a team that LOOKS like its making a good effort but it certainly Don't look like a convincing effort right now.

Yeah no thanks to big E falling on his azz on goal #2 or whichever one it was. When's the last time we were "gifted" like that?

The bottom line is Pitt has twice the talent as the Wings. Flip the coaches to the other bench and the result is the same. Think Roy was the first coach to pull the goalie that early regularly. Now most coaches do it when down by two. Times are a changing!

Reality may be setting in with this team. They give an effort and have chances but the better teams make the most of their chances. Net result is another close loss.
I'll be watching the Junior world championships to watch Wing prospects like Velano and Zadina. Also checking out who might be a good draft choice. Nobody from team Denmark - they lost 14-0 to Canada in game one.

3rd L in a row, 2-6-2, 4 out of 20 points in the last 10 games, 23rd place of 31 and falling We had some good looks and had a decent 1st period but I think that was more Pittsburgh being flat and not ready. We easily could have had 4-0 at the end of the first. We're a better team when Johnathan Ericsson doesn't dress. He gets beat like a rented mule on Kessels first goal which changed the momentum and got the Pen home crowd into it, seemed to be down hill after that. I agree with Pierre on Howard not making the saves and Murry making them. I think Jimmy is playing NOT to be traded. On Kessels second goal look at how much open net he had to shoot at...he could have picked any of the 4 corners on that. The saves that he did make that initially thought were great saves were really the players shooting it at Jimmy and not the open net. I have played 1000's of hockey games and not once did any team I played on or against come back from a 2 goal deficit by yanking the netminder with over 3 minutes left to play. I'd rather the team take higher risk offensively and then pull the goalie around the 2:00. I think the game was over early in the 3rd after AA's goal made it 3-2 and a shift or two after the goal when Pitt answered and made it 4-2...I think it was a little over a minute after AA scored. We have to be better at start/ending minutes of games and periods and have to be way better the shift after goals scored by us. Oh well, on to Big D tomorrow.
