4 to 4 late in the 3rd and Calgary has a PP coming up. No matter how this game ends, two things happened tonight. Larkin has proven himself as a leader. and Howard has killed all his trade value.

5 to 4 Flames with 3 minutes left. Howard was left alone to make a save and was beaten easily. Smith (Flame goalie) makes a point blank save on Bert Jr. One day the Wings will have a keeper that can put fear into the other team, but today is not that day.

for a moment i thought we would make 3 wins in a row…
silly me !
Can't blame Howard for the first 3 goals, but the 4th, where he did his best impersonnation of a Nutcracker Ballerina was hilarious. Yes it was deflected but can't you be square and big when needed ? a key saves sometimes. Same on the winner, yes the Flame was coming in with speed but Howard was too deep and lost his angles...easy goal.
Some notes.
We lead 4-3 late in the game with about 5 mins to play and on the PP, we should be ok right ? No we weren't !
did we really need to send on the ice 5 offensive players ? Kronwall, Cholo, Vanek, Larks and Neilsen. Wouldnt be better to send DK instead ? As much as i like Vanek he made a terrible back hand pass in the O zone that led to the Flames tieing goal. He shouldnt have been on the ice, same for Kronwall.
Overall we played a good game, but Glen's line was terrible, they Simply Don't fit together specially when AA is with Helm and Glen...it doesnt work. And for those who like Jensen..take a look at his action on the winner...as usual he lost his position, went flying onto the other side, left his position wide open...typical Jensen.
and by the way Helm and Glen...well can we get rid of them ? everytimes both were on the ice the puck was stuck in our zone..
But life is good..we will get Hughes..right ?

I don't like giving up 4 3rd period goals, coughing up the lead when we were 6 minute away and losing like that. As I've been saying I'm fine with L's if we put forth an effort but losing a lead and a game in the 3rd is not the kind of experience we really need for the young guys who can be prone to picking up bad habits.. Congratulations to Dylan Larkin on netting his 19th and 20th goals. He really stood out above everyone else last night...put the fucking C on the kids sweater and end this squirt/peewee level no captain, all alternates and rotating A's. This is the Detroit Red Wings in the NHL, not little kids in a house league at Taylor Community Center. All is probably so Ab=duh-kader doesn't get butt hurt because a kid wet behind the ears is more important to the team than he is. Hats off for the Flames for wearing the old school sweaters....that one dude with the red'ish mustache reminded me of Lanny McDonald a bit Jimmah Howard...yeah...he's not very good lately....unless a team has a major injury to a netminder between now and trade deadline look for KH to lock him up long term with a 40% inflated salary that any other team would NOT pay for the guy. We're not winning shit with him as a starter, we never won shit with him as starter. He's made a career of putting up decent numbers when it doesn't matter the most. Make it a key save, a must have W or a playoff game? He's ain't showing up. Later Jimmy... Mike Green, he's making it difficult for me to want to get rid of him and his salary The loss put us back where we need to be, the draft lottery but its going to be a tanking race between 8-10 teams so no telling. Parity at the top and parity in the basement of the NHL.

I don't know what to say. I thought we were playing a decent game for a while but Calgary is just much better and pulled away. I hope our kids can blossom like their kids have. Other than Larkin and maybe AA I don't feel too confident. Mantha and Rasmussen just don't impress me, although granted Ras is a rookie. How is Zadina lately? Last I remember he wasn't lighting things up. How's Valero been doing?

Green has been good. Wings have a much better record with him than without so I'm in the camp now of not trading him and keeping him around for he balance of his three year deal unless of course it's a too good to be true deal.
Wings won't bring up any of the recent draft picks until they are (1) officially out of the playoffs and (2) there are less than 9 games to play in which case it doesn't count as playing in a season. This will mean that guys like Zadina will not have to be protected when Seattle gets their pick of players. I'm sure that upper management has informed Zadina of this.
Wings in general are working hard even though the results are not there. I think they are four players away from being a playoff team and one of those players is a goalie. Not impossible to do by next year with the added cap space they will have if they don't sign they UFA players (Howard bein one of them).
