www.nhl.com/news/pavel-datsyuk-could-return-to-nhl-agent-says/c-304168142
I don't know if he'll go to Detroit as he is a UFA and I presume he wants to go to a contender. In the NEW NHL he won't be hacked and slashed like San Jose did to him all series long. He would be an incredible 3rd line centre for any team. Much like having Larionov back in the day. Still can do the PP as well.
He has to decide at the end of the season. Maybe his agent is using this to get a bigger contract. It is a change to go back to the smaller ice rink.

I heard this back in December and honestly didn't put too much thought into it because his contract is up in the KHL and the whole things could be a negotiation tactic to get a bigger KHL contract. I believe Arizona owns Pavel's NHL rights so even if Pavel wants to return to the NHL his fate is in their hands. Dats went to Russia to be closer to his family...what has changed in 2-3 years? Does he just miss the royalty treatment that players in the best league in the world get... I know this goes against our rebuilt and younger phase but I'd welcome Pavel back as a Red Wing. The way he left Detroit with a year left probably means he didn't leave on the best of terms so who knows if we'd take him back. At age 41 would still be one of the best player on our team and he could help the younger guys develop into two way players

Yeah, I heard this on the radio going to work this morning. Interesting rumor. We'll see where it goes.
Would I like to see him back in Detroit? Dunno. If he's somewhat in shape and shows some flashes of the old Pavel it could be pretty entertaining. Right now other than maybe AA the Wings are SO BORING to watch most nights.
From a player development standpoint not really sure if I care if he takes someone's spot any more. Who do we really want to see on the ice instead? Mantha with 12 goals invisible most nights? Rasmussen with 6 goals uninspiring? Yawn. Who's the next change maker? To me, right now, for a young core we have Larkin, AA, Bertuzzi, Cholo and, OK, maybe Mantha. The entire rest of the team is pretty much expendable. So Dats comes back and grabs a roster spot and adds a little entertainment value - so what?

Whatever the case I can't see any way he goes back to Detroit. What would be the point???.....none.

My point is he's better right now at age 40 than 75% of the 23 who dress every night. I agree with Chris as he would bring some excitement back. Larkin, AA are currently it. Perhaps Dats would have be cheaper than covering seats in brand spankin new arena because they are so easy to see when empty and bright red, seats empty as a result of a crappy product on the ice 41 games a season Pavel was my favorite player and it doesn't really matter if we take him or not. I'm fine getting younger, cheaper and more upward potential on prospects ans draft picks. I;m also fine if we do, as Mickey would say, "worth the price of admission"
