Larsson, selected 167th overall by the Wings in the 2016 NHL entry draft, is enjoying a spectacular freshman season with the Pioneers.
He was just named the goaltender of the week for the second time this season after posting 76 saves on 78 shots, a 0.96 goals-against average and a .974 save percentage in Denver's consecutive 2-1 wins against North Dakota.

Conflicted on Howard. He obviously is not the long term answer. HOWEVER he can help lose games while protecting fragile egos of the young goalies like Larsson. Have come to the conclusion I don't care what they do with him. Sign him for a couple more bad years and let him take the mental hit or Bernier can do the same. Am convinced no team will give up much for him. Was shocked to read STL may be interested! LGDRAFT!

Sorry it won't be good for my mental health to see Howard back in our goal next season..with a new contract !
I might be a nasty little member of this board if it happens…
We need to move on..give the net to Bernier, he's Under contract, recall any goalie from GR and that's it.
It won't happen ..you know why ? cause KH thinks we have a chance for next year and his love for vets will force him to make signing mistakes…
Unless he decides to step aside for SY...he won't do it, didnt do 8 years ago why would he do it next year ??

I think most DRW fans have little patience left and are frustrated that we really did little to improve when great players retire. Hell it took the league a few years before they saw the greatness in Lidstrom but we knew and also knew when he left the game we will suffer if we didn't build the D up, you're not replacing a Lidstrom but you could focus on semi-elite defensemen. Little or no exit planning for when #19,#5,#96,#13 and #40 left.
I think the org just got complacent, cap management poor by signing mediocre players to star player salary and durations. The Illitch family is not the same w/o Mike. The once storied franchise cannot fill seats in a new expensive barn. If we don't make an changes or attempts to improve the quality of the product the attraction for home games will be the opposing teams...sort of like way back when we'd go to JLA to see the NY Islanders or Montreal Canadiens when we wanted to see quality NHL team. Hell they had to give cars away when we played a another crappy team. As I think back on this I think the turn for the worse was when Illitch bought the Tigers. Its tough having once successful franchise let alone two. The Tigers were the new baby and Mike wanted to win a WS so he put the real effort and money into them while we slowly wilted away...now both teams are in pretty sad shape.
