Forum's getting a little boring. Who we playing tonight? Oh, the Avs, yawnnnn
I'm having a hard time accepting we're this bad. I mean we have all these top picks in the line up. They should be doing something right? I can only think of a few things:
1) Still no depth at D (puck movement) 2) Maturation of picks - but Larks, AA, Mantha et al should be able to light it up once in a while 3) Secondary depth is totally ineffective - Helmer, Boom Boom, et al 4) Coaching 5) All of the above 6) None of the above 7) Not enough energy on the forum - or fan base overall ......

I think your 2nd point is a major one. All the young guys are just starting to become men and not boys. This was stated during the Buffalo - Edmonton game the other day when a comment was made about Eichel (Buff # 1 pick a couple years back). They stated that he became " a man" during this year and is now a leader they can build around. Dahline , the Buff # 1 pick this past year and first overall, is really good but only 18. It will take him a couple of years to be a force as his body matures along with the knowledge of the NHL game.
Wings need to draft well this year and have some young guys take their place in the NHL. I look forward to Zadina having a full season next year to see if he shows sign of the scorer he was in juniors. The next couple of years will be exciting in Detroit. It may look like a Buffalo team, one with a lot of promise but having to learn how to win in the big leagues. Once they go through those growing pains the Wings should have a seven year window where they be a force again. It takes time and patience.
In the meantime a few things that I would like to see happen. 1-Get Yzerman from Tampa. Holland has been good for the Wings but how can you turn down Stevie Y with the job he's done in Tampa. Yzerman will work out the coaching situation. 2-Move out the vets where you can. Hard to do with the long term contracts but maybe you have to swallow some cap dollars in a trade like they did with Nyquist. 3- Don't resign Howard. I've seen too many teams with backup goalies who are better than Howard. It's time to move him out and give someone else a chance. 4-Draft well these next two years. This includes getting the best players you can but you also have to think about needs a bit more. Forwards were great gets in last year's draft but maybe you emphasize drafting d-men unless you get one of the top three picks as those three forwards are a cut above. The list above is not unrealistic and it could and should happen.

Wings lose in OT 4-3 Zadina with his first to give the Wings a short lived 3-2. Nice one timer, deflected but you can see the promise. Another close loss but that has been par for the course this year.

Played well enough to win this game. For a moment i thought we would hold to that lead but naah...we can't win. On that tieing goal our forward were skating in front of our net not doing anything...get out of there if you don't can't block the shot. This is what i use to say to my forward when i was playing goal..."Get out of there if you don't block the shot, let me see it "
AA stopped skating after that great scoring chance in OT.. and it's not the first time. Can someone finally tell him to skate all the time...more and more i see AA with great speed but very low hockey IQ. Positive thing about this one was of course the play of Zadina Still...it's better not to win...but it sure would have been fun..

I vote #7 Chris. The active uses can be counted on one hand. It's very hard having hockey any "discussions" when there are only 3-5 folks hanging out at intermittent parts of the day/night/week/month/year/decade/century. We're on track even though we got a point. We're still in 30th place, the losing streak alive at 8 games (3 out of 16 available points). The positive from last night was the moment of silence for honoring Ted Lindsay in Colorado. I wasn't expecting that since it was a road game. Also cool was FSD's spots throughout the night. I like hearing the old stories. Ted wasn't a big man but was skilled, fierce, nasty when needed and what made him even better was his compete levels and always wanting to win. I was having some doubts on the Johnson kid as #1 in the draft as he is undersized but the kid has drive and loves to compete, like Ted If we lucky enough to get the #1 pick overall I'd take him. Negatives were getting scored on again in the closing minute of the period/game and Danny DeKeyser getting so faked out of his jockstrap he falls down and go boom-boom Then in OT he backs up way too slow granting too much time and space for the MacKinnon to fire a wicked wrister from point blank range. $5 million cap hit through 21-22 season. I think he was WAY overhyped coming out of college. He fit in right away and didnt look out of place at all. Problem is he never improved and is starting to turn into Jonathan Ericsson who is turning into overpaid pylon.

RIP Mr Lindsey. He was before my time but have seen lots of footage. A true all-time great player/Wing! As to Jarvis point about not re-signing Howard...I too have had the same thought for years. An average NHL goalie(as have been all since Hasek..although Osgood had flashes of greatness/see 2008 playoffs) that will never win a Cup in Detroit or anywhere else. BUT have since changed my mind...find a true #1 YOUNG goalie somewhere (Pierre mentioned one a few weeks ago?) and let him spell Howard the next couple/few years. Play maybe 20-25 games tops. Let Howard absorb what are sure to be nightly beat downs. Then cast him aside into his bin of obscurity. Maybe after sucking for a few seasons they can draft themselves back into a contender. Not a bright outlook but possible. LGDRAFT!

if Howard is resign and Blashill/KH are still here my guess is that Howard will play 50 games at least.
He needs to go but since their was no taker at TDL i'm sure KH will offer him Something he can't refuse.

I never liked Howard's salary and $5.2m cap hit, well in all actually I never liked Jimmy Howard as an NHL starter from the get go. When we signed Bernier it made matters worse as we have over $8 million tied up in what essentially amounts to 2 backup netminders. I'd rather get a REAL starter capable of carrying the team in the playoffs...Howard carries us to the golf course.
I'd let Jimmy walk and see what Bernier can do as a starter and bring up a goalie from the farm as they'll be cheap. I watched some of the CO game feed and they were talking about Bernier really got them to the playoffs last season coming for an injured Varlarmov and won like 9-10 in a row so who know, maybe he could be a starter if given more of a chance than intermittent starts spread out or jumping in cold when Howard gets yanked. The other option is we look for a FA as wecurrently have $5.6m free cap space (cap will probably increase again) and really have no RFA/UFA's that we need. KH should offer Jimmy "yank me" Howard a contract make it a 1 year, lowball take it or leave it offer but we know that ain't gonna happen. He'll resign Howards again and overpay for his services. I'd like to let Kronwall retire but I think he played some pretty good hockey this year and is a good for the younger D core so I'd be fine either way, he's not breaking the bank.
