My guess is they could suit up 54 year old Brett Hull and plop him downing the slot on PPs only! THAT would improve the team!!!

You are correct Pierre...was juiced up and pissed off. Wings played better late in the season and was hoping they might actually get some scoring. Have they done ANYTHING???

we still have Jeff Blashill so whatever player changes we make might not have a effect on the team improving

Well, sigh. The GM has brought in Flip, Ehrn, Perlini, and Fabbri and demoted Big E. The result is nothing to write home about. But Holland probably would have done nothing except erroneously maybe extend some guys.
The feeling here is a little like and a little unlike the start of the Deadwing era. The like is the team isn’t performing, and the primary hope is to look to the draft. The unlike is they didn’t just run their legend off and the guy running the team gives us hope.
The Deadwings eventually got rid of Ned, brought in Jimmy D, drafted Stevie and Nick, brought in the Russians, and traded for Shanny.
Now at least we have brought in Stevie to run the team. He’s got a ways to go and will need to build a core with some blue chippers from the draft. And there’s FAs eventually to add along with trades. The timeline to contender is probabaly . . . five years.
At this low point we’d be happy to see progress along these lines. So far besides SY I don’t see the blue chip corp. Mantha and Larkin are not Federov and Yzerman, at least not yet. And if Seider is Nick it will be a big surprise. They have some draft choices, might as well head for the bothom and start cleaning up KH contrzcts and start showing progress in s year.

This is nothing like the Deadwings era. At that time the team needed a change of ownership similar to what the Detroit Lions need now. The Fords will keep the NFL team in the dark for years to come. If the Norris family had held on to the team the Wings would have not made the playoffs for more than two decades and they probably would have never won a cup.
As for the current Wings, things are different. Salary cap era for one and there are a lot more teams to bypass in order to become a cup contender. Wings have to look at teams like Pittsburg who got two or three very high draft choices to build around. The Wings have not had a top three pick and that will change this year and could happen again the following year.
I want Yzerman to make some shrewd trades at the deadline. There was a recent article that AA could be traded and there is nothing wrong with that it gets Detroit some players or picks to build around. Also I want to see two or three buyouts this year. It costs the team some cap money but you have to start seeing what the younger players can do next year if not later this year. Yes it will take some time but it's what you have to do these days as every other team is trying to do the same thing. There are no Federov type players that can be snuck out of countries anymore.
Again, there is no quick fix. Nobody is going out of there way to help the Wings as they have been one of the better teams in the last 25 years. There are 32 teams in the league once Seattle joins so on average you should see one cup every generation. I think with Stevie at the helm we'll see a lot of growing pains but eventually a new core will be there and the Wings will have that 7 to 10 year Window to win a cup again.

Once again my guess is none of us will be alive when the ..."window"...opens up again. Sad but probably true! LGRW!!!

Once again my guess is none of us will be alive when the ..."window"...opens up again. Sad but probably true! LGRW!!! It will take time but not that long. Pitt got Crosby and Malkin in back to back years and that changed everything for them. Then I think they got Fleury in net but not so sure about when he was drafted. Point is that within a couple of high draft years the Pens were a good team again. Brian Burke, who is not one of my favourite hockey gurus, stated that if you are not moving up in the standings then you are better off moving down. Getting a top three pick is the way to get a solid player who can contribute right away in most cases. That is certain to happen this year. The Wings will be good again one day. Let's watch the process unfold. The Lions, unlikely until the Fords sell the team. (note- this was supposed to be their year and they are 3-9-1. Yes they have injuries but so does every other team including New England).

remember the Avs finished the 16-17 season with a record low 47 points...and look where they are now ..barely a couple of seasons later..
So..it might happens to us !

Exactly Pierre. They had to stink for a while to get players like Mackinnon and he had to develop.
As much as I want to see guys like Zadina and Veleno succeed, are these two guys difference makers like Mackinnon? Probably not but time will tell. They are both first round picks who should develop but they probably aren't franchise players like Yzerman was.
Again, let's watch this year unfold and see what Yzerman has in store.
I saw Darren McCarty on a Detroit sports newscast where he was asked about the future of the Wings and he stated that things will get better with Yzerman as he is transparent. He then commented on the Lions and said things are not transparent there and you see that the new GM took a 9-7 to a current 3-9-1 record. Yzerman will not play favourites. Recall that Bowman was about to trade him if he didn't become a two way player. Give Steve Y some time to do his job.

Zadina, Mantha, Veleno, Larkin, Bertuzzi, Seider - does anyone really see any of those guys as a difference maker or makers? A Yzerman/Federov combo? Looks like a good supporting staff to me. But we still don't seem to have drafted "the one." Maybe next draft. Sigh ....
