Oh how I wish we could get a tender who could steal a game for us once in awhile. Hasek was the last great one.Who was it before him? Vernon and Osgood were good but not great. The Curtis Joseph experiment was a bomb out. For awhile way back when, we picked up goalies who were past their prime: Giacomin and Vachon come to mind. The mediocre goalie philosophy was Ken Holland's. I guess if you put enough stars on the top 3 lines and stack your top 4 d-men you can get away with less talent in goal. Howard was a "good enough" goalie when he faces 18-25 SOGs/ game. That means you have to put a very good defense in front of him. His .900 save pct says it all... he'll give up a goal for every ten shots. Lately he's been giving up a goal every 7-8 shots. Time for Howard to either get traded or retire.

Scout Finland...seems like the majority of solid netminders of late originate there.
Giving up 30-40 shots a night is a bit tough to expect a goalie to stop them all

Yzerman has to get a pool of 2 or 3 young goalies who will fight it out in time for the number one job. Last great goalie the Wings actually drafted was Roger Crozier. It's time for that to change.

To compare Osgood with Hasek is as laughable as the premature exit of a famous french Canadian..
