i think he is ..and has been for quite sometimes now. Thank God to the ultimate Red Wings loyalty this guy has a lot of money in his Pocket and a lenghty career.
Howard is slow, very slow. In his A day (Don't remember when) he could at least have a decent speed. Today, at least two goals allowed were terrible. I give him a pass on the first Buffalo goal and maybe the breakaway, although on a breakaway some goalie from other teams makes the save !. The Bogosian goal look bad because Howard was surrounded by a bunch of tourist who gave him a freelane, but look at Howard on the play, he totally froze, lost track of the puck carrier adn react so slow it was embarrassing to Watch. ...I think Howard is playing his last season...in any league ! No one would want to acquire him at TDL even for a 7th round pick.
Every puck was going in early in the game and we quit...then we got a goal and we finally found some legs...we even came close to get a second one (how could Helm miss that loose puck ?)
...but then another easy goal by our loveable goalie and it was over..
next !!

How could Holland be so ‘brilliant’ and then be so ‘dim’? Has he ever made a good cap era move? Was everything before set up by Jimmy D? He sure sounded like the real force behind the Wings success in The Russian Five documentary. Well, anyway, after watching them die on the vine these past ten years having The Captain running the ship is the best thing to happen since the ‘08 Cup.

Howard's record is something like 2 and 15 so Bernier's record is not nearly as bad considering he is with a last place team. Jimmy used to have good positioning and used his size. Then he signed a big contract and everything seemed to dissolve. He was trade bait 2 or 3 years ago but not anymore.
AA and Mike Green are the two main trade bait guys now. Since Howard's contract is done at the end of the season I think that Yzerman would not give up Bernier unless it's for a decent pick otherwise you have two unknowns playing in net next year. Sticking with Bernier and bringing up a young goalie to get his feet wet might be the way to go.

That was a stinker of a game and Howard stunk it up to high heaven. At one point he had given up 3 goals on 6 shots. He makes Jared Correau look like an all-star. He used to be known as "Five-Hole Jimmy"... but we need to change that to "Five Goal Jimmy". It's sad seeing an above average goalie like Howard slide so far, so quickly. Two years ago he was an all-star. I hope Pickard gets to make some starts while Bernier is out, I really don't want to see anymore of Howard. According to Kahn's latest piece. he hasn't won a game since before Halloween!
It hurts to see Zadina getting less ice time that turds like Abby. Seems like we would want to be getting Zadina more ice time rather than decreasing it. I figure we'd want to see if he keeps improving at the NHL level- but it must be hard playing on a line with Filpulla and Erne. BTW how does Filpulla mess up so badly on a breakaway? Ken Daniels tried go excuse it away saying "he doesn't like to shoot the puck" but come on- it was such a half-hearted effort. No moves, no deke- just plowed straight ahead and into the goalies pads and couldn't lift the puck. How lame can you get? I've seen better attempts watching peewee games
These games are getting tougher and tougher to watch. I find myself looking for reasons to turn it off, leave the room and do anything else.

Fil's game is terrible..They play him on the second PP swing and he just refuse to shoot, refuse to get intense, the only thing he can do is to pass back on the point...This is his last season in the NHL
...same for Howard…
I also predict that they will buyout Abby..and maybe another one, but i'm not sure if they can buyout two players in one summer.

I missed about 5 minutes of the 1st period, when I tuned in we already were down 0-2 with Howard in net so it wasn't promising I wasn't happy about tying up too much money for essentially 2 backup netminders. Between the 2 Bernier is the better goalie yet we pay a boatload of cash to Howard to count shots and give up 4 + goals a night when he starts. Whoever isn't in our future plans we need to sit them and I don't care how much $$$ they make, it is irrelevant if not in the future so lets speed up some younger guys so they can gain some experience in the NHL with little to no pressure to win or lose hockey games. They'll be better when the geezers get hurt, get bought out or traded

Vpalmer from another board straighten me out by telling me that Fil has a 2 years contract...so we are stuck with him for another year, unless SY found a way out of it, i'm sure he can...

Hey, guys, nice to see you all still hanging around. I don't drop by often but, like you guys, remain a loyal Wings' fan. I do follow MLive a lot but the team itself is a real cluster f*&k right now. Worse than ever and made more so by Howie's embarrassing play.
I have a few other concerns and random thoughts of course, namely: 1. The easy way they give up when they get scored on 2. The vets who do anything but play inspirational hockey. 3. The minutes played by said vets while younger or newer players often get to sit on the bench or not dress(specifically guys like Perlini who show some flair).
I hope SY can dump virtually all of the vets who are supposedly "good in the room" because they are certainly not leading on the ice.
Next year may be bad too but then I hope to see them begin the upward swing.

point number one is the main point, that's why they need Bernier in goal to compete, cause with Howard in they know they Don't have a chance, so they give up quickly.

Everyone says that we have bottomed out this year... I disagree. I can see us being worse next year than this year. All our vets will be older next year. The Nielsen's Abbys, Helms, Filpulla's are all signed and under contract for next season. These guys will be older, slower and have diminished reflexes. We can't seem to get rid of them. They'll take up a roster spot that could be given to a kid. Everyone speaks of the value they give in the locker room... they suck on the ice and don't lead by example. I think the only thing they know is they can tell the younger players the names of good restaurants while on a road trip. Other than that they contribute bupkis.
Sure, Green, Daley, building 52 and hopefully Five Goal Jimmy will be gone. But the kids that should have been up here and learning will arrive with only minimal exposure to the NHL. So next year will be their learning curve not this year. Yeah- we are probably going to suck as bad if not worse next year.
