AA and Green healthy scratch tonight. Don't expect anything better than a 4th or if we are lucky a 3rd round pick for him.
And i believe it is not guarantee that AA will be trade. SY probably expect a decent return for him. At least a 3rd round pick et a prospect. If the return is not good enough SY will keep AA...imo

Trading AA for a 3rd round pick would be lunacy....unless the thinking is you want to give him away for nothing. Go into the last 10 drafts and see how many 3rd round picks amounted to anything.....probably couldn't count the number on one hand.

When you hold out players they are usually gone. Green has now been traded to Edmonton for a player on I.R. and a conditional 4th round pick. I presume the pick is based on Edmonton making the playoffs or something to that effect. So 4th rounder for Green. Can AA bring back much better?
Something else to consider when trading for lower round picks is that you increase the depth at the minor league level even if they don't make it to the NHL. Do you recall Jimmy D stating that it was not a mistake signing players like Ray Stazak (sp?) and others to big contracts at the time even though they didn't pan out. It made the minor league system stronger and the cream would rise to the top. Depth is important and the Wings are lacking there as well.
This is not a one year turnaround for the Wings. It will take time but part of the process is getting more draft picks even if they are mid rounders.

I wonder when a total rebuild stops ! I mean..its nice to pyle up picks but when you let go a 27 years old great player like Pageau for picks, insteads of locking him up like the Rangers just did with Kreider, are you really doing a good move ? Pyling up picks is great but these players won't be ready until at least 3 seasons. Can the fans still have patience to wait that long ...again ? I accept SY to pyle up picks for next season but don't give up valuable asset for the sake of having a collection of picks...think about the fans,

AA to Oilers for 2 second rounders...good deal IMO
Edmonton might be the best place to land for AA. They don't care about defense, just like AA so... The Oilers are betting that they can win with only offense to show for..

Here is my take on the AA trade. Yes he has a potential to score 30 goals and more but where do you see his overall game ?
Bad on defense, a pherimeter player at best who refuses to engage in any puck battle, who is only looking for the one hit wonder, doesn't follow the game plan, doesnt care the overall succes of the team.
You can't win cups with that kind of player....So for all of these reasons its a good deal

On the other hand, maybe AA just hated it here. Maybe he'll be a different guy on a different team. We will see. I'm betting he'll be much better playing with the Oilers.

Good trade for both teams IMO. AA gets a new team where they can use his offense and speed. Wings get a roster player and two 2nd round picks and it's a deep draft this year apparently.
So far 4th rounder two 2nd rounders and a roster player.
Not bad coming from a bottom feeder team in the GMs first year in Detroit.
Don't see the Wings making any more trades of significance.
Also, Wings picked up Timashov from the Leafs on waivers. He's a 3rd or 4th liner at best but he's only 23. More young depth on this team has been added. In the end, how the Wings do in the draft the next year or two will be key. Once you have a core of decent young talent then you can attract some decent free agents.

Read where AA may be playing alongside McDavid. He may top 30 next season.

Read where AA may be playing alongside McDavid. He may top 30 next season. If he signs with them...remember RFA ? That's right, and remember the last time AA negociated with KH ?...That's right he went to Europe for a while.. We will see..i'm not convince AA is a sure lock in Edmonton for a long time.. on the other hand KH has a history of amazing ...stupid contracts..so why not one more ?
