Greiss is in goal tonight.
No surprise he had a great camp, and Bernier had a bad one..

Greiss should be rated higher IMO than Bernier at this stage of their careers. Bernier will still be decent but I would like to see Greiss take over the number one spot by the end the year.
Looking forward to the new look Red Wings and the new captain.

Larkin didn't look very Captainly with that giveaway resulting in Carolina's first goal - jeesh.

First period observations:
Giveaway by the Captain Missed assignment in front of the net Hopelessly out muscled and out shot Another shutout period
Yeah, rust - right? Carolina played in the bubble but they've been off months too. So maybe it's Blashill's consistent inability to get his team ready to play at a competitive NHL level. Or not?
We'll see. I'm ready to give it a lot more time. After the second period I'll decide if I'm going to watch another game this season.

First period observations:
Carolina is a bigger and faster team - a lot more scoring chances Detroit Defense is not in sync but that's expected with a large changeover Greiss is already better than Howard - he did not give up two goals in the first five minutes Brome is a surprise Neilsen is a surprise in that he's in the lineup.
About what I expected overall: Wings do have more rust than Carolina who are a better team to begin with. I predicted a slow start for the Wings this season and to miss the playoffs but I'm still watching in case they prove me wrong.

For two more periods. LOL

Relax...we look rusty cause we have a bunch of newbies in the line-up..and we haven't played in 10 months !...Canes have the same line-up as a couple of months in the playoffs..
Its totally normal...for now..

some notes..
Of course, a bunch of newbies, first game but still, it was a total embarrassment tonight.
Cohesion is word on the Canes can pronounce
Staal look awefully slow in the first, got a bit better later...
Of course when our beloved coach realized that we weren't in it in the first guess who sat...you guest it..Zadina !
He didnt look good early but what about the rest of the bunch ? The vet didnt miss a beat..except him.
I'm trying hard to understand a game like this. New players, new season.but no reason to be dominated lilke this.
A positive note...Greiss in goal..thank God he was hot..
I thought Larks found the weight of his new letter tough to carry..
We need to be better, more intense if we want this season to look different...
By the way who found the fake noise annoying ??

We don't look rusty - we look really bad.
Yes, it's totally normal. For our dear Red Wings.
OK I'm done venting. On to the next game. We get these guys again in a couple days, right? Great .....

Larks pretty much cost us the game. After the giveaway in the first that cost us a goal I really thought he might step up and score a biggie. Instead he takes an ill advised penalty that cost us the game.
I've been thinking this for a long time but never posted it here. You know who Dylan Larkin reminds me of? Shane Doan. A pretty good player, maybe a consistent 20 goal scorer on a team that never wins anything. Not sure if Doan ever wore the "C" though. I think he did.
