The Detroit Red Wings have taken care of business five games into the season by beating a few teams they should have defeated on the way to a 4-1-0 start.
A bigger test comes this week, when the Red Wings face three of the tougher and more potent clubs in the Eastern Conference – Tampa Bay, Toronto and Washington.

It looks like Howard starts. Tonight ss a battle for 1st place in the Atlantic. Tampa has a lot of skill on the power play so we need to stay out of the box as much as we can.

Mantha is staying on a line with Z and Nyquist is good to see. Facing 3 of the best offenses in NHL this week. Strange to see Babcock's team leading the league in scoring.

Another quick start ala last season. As Pierre posted more talented teams up next.Hopefully this team will gain confidence and concentrate on keeping the puck out of their net. Can Howard keep it up? Currently his .955 save percentage is second only to Crawfords .960 with goalies with multiple starts. Will be very happy if he could end up around .925 for the season. Would be a nice improvement on his career number of .916 LGRW!!!

Mistakes ended up in the back of our net. We played pretty good for the most part., had plenty of decent chances. Just the turnovers and the shorty. Tampa owns us in Detroit the last few seasons.
Regroup and go for 2 against Toronto Wednesday night.

I feel an enormous amount of frustration right now..
First we are a turnover machine...lead by E. He was hilarious on the winner, dropped the puck right in front of his own net. Howard was equally hilarious on the same goal. How come a pro goalie, who earns over 6m a yer doesnt know that when you stretch your glove to freeze the puck you need to protect yourself ? like placing your stick down on the ice. And if you can't place a stick...DON'T STRETCH YOUR GLOVE !!
How many times have we seen Howard do the same play ? diving on the lose puck in front leaving everything unprotected behind.
A peewee B play.
We are a turnover machine cause we can't play against a team who send one forward, not two, just one on our puck carrier, but that forward is relentless. You can bet your favorite underwear that the man in red will turn the puck over.
We had countless chances to tie the game with but you can feel it was not going to happen. And when Larkin takes a night off like tonight we are suddenly stuck with only one quality center...Z ! who is playing his best hockey in the last 6 or 7 seasons. Thank God he is there.
Tell me why we are paying Helm 5mil per season. I said last year that he has lost a step or two...well this year he lost another one. He is not even fast so...what's left from this player ? the waivers ! (same thing will happen to Frk before this season is over...back on the waiver.)
We could have won this one...but we did everything we could so that it would not happen.

I thought we played really well overall. The hustle was there all night long. I thought Nyquist was very good and Z skated like 6 years ago, I agree. Mantha has some good moments too. Abby was engaged and who knew he can score on a penalty shot. PP failure and a stupid 3rd goal were the differences in this game.

To be honest when they awarded Abdelkader a penalty shot I said to myself I'd rather have a 2 minute power play hahah.
Ericsson has been terrible. I'm seeing a pattern so far this season where in our own end of the rink we are NOT getting the puck out of the zone when we have possession, we turn the puck over and it ends up in the back of our net. I'd rather lose possession with a flip out into the neutral zone or an icing instead of a turnover in our zone.
4-2 isn't that bad of a start to the season.
By the way, whats up with all of the empty seats in LCA? The bright red seats really stand out when empty.

Ericsson has been terrible in many games, but also good in some. Honestly XO and Jensen are possibly worse, but every E error ends up in the back of our net, so his mistakes are more memorable. Reminds me of Smith actually.

Red Wings' Danny DeKeyser out another week, maybe two. When he blocked shot Oct. 10 at Dallas, also rolled ankle, so slight sprain. In DRW language, that means 3 to 4.

Yikes. The shot DK blocked bounced all the way out of the zone. Yep. I agree, that is code speak for "we don't know how long he'll be out but probably a month"
