Everything is meh-ta
You’ve got decent goaltending headed into the fall. Howard knows he’s gone at some point next year if he plays well and doesn’t talk about taking less money, or if talks with the Islanders come back up. If Coreau doesn’t do anything now, you can pick any UFA goalie and he’ll at least be as good as Howard.
Hope you don’t trade Green unless it’s the perfect deal. That’s just cuz one more guy like him and you’re winning more games next year. Trading Mrazek freed cap to go after Carlson, Enstrom, even McDonagh.
Is there anyone like Witkowski headed to UFA? Komarov isn’t a fighter but is a big physical presence. I think Hartnell is proving he’s still got good life. Ryan Reaves maybe the best available like that. This is important for the heart and soul of your team. For what Booth is getting, you could have a big body banger who can fit anywhere in your lineup. I think Witkowski is better than how Blashill has used him. He really only had that one Calgary game that had a poor judgement call but up to that point, things were going great all around and his presence was helping. That ten games without him saw things start to crumble. But I continue to dream of a world where Detroit remembers its greatness was indeed built on guys like this. You have to be able to spark yourselves when you’re down and Abdelkader doesn’t and just Bertuzzi isn’t enough.
Trades right now, I think you need to free up space on the blue one. That should be the goal. Ideally set yourself up to have Hicketts and Russo up. You need to fix that and you’ll see scoring improve and less time in your own zone.

Holland isn’t going to accept anything but draft picks for his trades. Green should be dealt tomorrow (from the reports given to us). Will publish when confirmed. But only if the team accepts the fact they’ll have to give up a second round and third.

..."Hope you don’t trade Green unless it’s the perfect deal..."
--They MUST trade Green ! ...there is no other way. He is an upcoming UFA and they don't want to lose him for Nothing. Beside, if Green loves Detroit that much he just have to resign with the Wings next july. As a matter of fact the Wings can negociate right now with Green even if they trade him.
I'm not sure if Kenny is smart enough but i believe it's easy to have a little discussion with Green ...it can go like this;
"Green we will trade you this week-end but we would like to see if this figure (fill the blank) is good enough for you to come back to us next season ?"
I think it's feasable...but if you ask my opinion Green will not accept a paycut and we will not offer him another contract that starts with a minimum of 6 mil...no way. A 2 years 10m would be more like it.

Sorry if I was a player of Mike Green caliber I wouldn't stay in Detroit -- getting overpaid isn't enough for me to want to stay here and play on a team that is 3-6 years away from being competitive again. Green will pull a Ray Bourque end up on a team (s) that is in a cup running. He's 32 and made plenty of money already.

If we are 3 to 6 years aways from being a contender again (geez that sound painfull to my ears !) How come the Avs finished in LAST place last season and now they are in the playoffs looking good. How come the Devils missed the playoffs last season and now they are cup contender... How come the Bruins missed the playoffs last season and now are cup contender... Why this scenario cannot happens to us ?

I guess I should re-define competitive, legitimate cup contender. Making the playoffs in a league where 16 teams make the cut doesn't mean a lot to ME...only about 4-5 teams are worthy of making it to finals. Of the teams you mention, Boston is the only one capable of winning a cup. How about Chicago Blackhawks? Best in the West last season, this season last in the Central, 12th in the conference and will miss the playoffs. damn...thats a pretty hard fall. I don't believe we're really that bad of team. With a better coach if we would have won 50% of the 1 goal games we lost or games we lost in OT/SO we'd probably be in the playoffs

I think Green needs to be gone by Monday noon... get what you can Kenny, but I hope to hell it's better than we got for Vanek. I hope for a first, but a second rounder + an NHL ready prospect would be great. I would also hope he can move one of: Nyquist, Tatar or Helm for a couple of picks. As much as I love him I hope it's Tatar. By the time we are ready to compete again, he will be an old man. Same goes for Nyquist- but I think he gets a second rounder at next years TDL. Clearing all this cap space let's us do one thing- sign our UFAs (AA, Mantha, Larkin, Frk). Anyone thinking we should dip into the free agent market is smokin' crack. Much as I lov e Kronwall- he needs to do the team and his broken down body a favor and LTIR himself. And that's how I see it.

I would have to throw my bullsh!t flag on that one.

Again, why did the NHL drop the weighted lottery? Was it more Edmonton sucking or watching Toronto continue to move top 5 picks to Boston?
And that’s the thing: you say you wouldn’t want to play on a team that’s several years away from championships...as if the reality of the NHL is anything other than: who has money to give me?
Erik Karlsson on the trading block and McDonagh just made it harder to get the deal you want for green. If you’re not getting the high picks he’s worth then there is no point to the move, and you’ve got first dibs on the guy you know is your top defenseman going into the fall. But there’s still so many names going around that I won’t be surprised if Ericsson even gets named ijnsomething

According to a breaking news report from TSN producer Jeremy Collins, Detroit Red Wings star defenseman Mike Green has refused to waive his no-trade clause for a trade that would send him to the Toronto Maple Leaf.
Not sure how reputable is the source.

Not sure how reputable is the source. I heard he only approved Tampa Bay and Washington. Tampa Bay wants Karlsson so if Ottawa deals him to TB Green will only go back to Washington
