Who would have thought Capitals and Hawks will be a combined 1 and 5 to start the playoffs. In general when watching these games, if KH thinks we are just couple of tweaks away, he is really misguided.

www.calgarysun.com/2017/04/20/francis-brian-elliott-era-over-in-calgarySo Elliot may be done in Calgary. I thought he was one of the reasons the Flames got into the playoffs in the first place. Calgary sat back when they blew the 4-1 lead in game three. If you sit back eventually you give up goals. Elliot is still a good goalie and will find a place to play. Would the Wings be interested in Elliot? Should they be?

Buffalo cleaned house...GM and coach fired this morning.
How about those Ducks? Swept Calgary and resting while awaiting round 2 opponent.
I'm a bit surprised that the Blackhawks are down 0-3 facing elimination tonight

The math teacher for sure. He's clearly in over his head.
Not so sure about Kenny. He's built championship teams in different eras using different building blocks. I think now that "the streak" is over and it's evident we're in re-build mode, we'll see a different Kenny. If not, he probably needs to go.

That's probably true Pierre. Do I see Chris Ilitch making that move? Probably not.

Wow....#1 seed in the Western Conference joins the Wings on the golf course back 9.
Metric analysis doesn't always paint the entire picture and yes...anything can happen in Playoff Hockey!

Was just reading an article about the Hawks saying they are now paying the price for Stan Bowman's past "win now" moves. It's kind of the model we have followed here and we are probably now further along the rebuild curve than the Hawks. I've always been kind of interested in the building of championship teams so this will be fun to watch. Both with us and the other teams who have GM's everyone think are so great. Holland v Yzerman v Bowman. Let the battle of the goliaths begin.

Toronto looked very impressive. I have to say I predict them being at least in the SCF in the next 3 years and possibly winning it in the next 3-5.

End of the First Round - - - not many surprises based upon Statistical Performance of the past Season.
Yes, surprises based upon subjective reasoning were evident such as Chicago getting swept. Just about everybody picked the Hawks. Basically, the Hawks coasted into the PO’s over the last couple of weeks of the season, and they expected to be winners just by stepping on the ice.
But the Hawks met a determined Central Division foe - - the Preds which played with overwhelming intensity and grit. The Hawks were “No Shows,” but I think they will still be in the mix next year. From a analytical position - - both teams were evenly matched.
But from a subjective viewpoint, the Hawks were highly favored.
Other teams which were considered Statistical Even in talent and performance included . . .
Montreal vs Rangers series. Again, the Rangers played to their strengths and sent the Canadiens home earlier than which they expected.
Pens over Jackets - - Cup experience overwhelmed the Jackets.
Almost an identical scenario between the Sharks and Oilers. Oilers played with high speed, intensity, and great youthful leadership to send the Sharks to early tee-times.
As for the favored teams based upon season performance. . .
Boston could not overcome defensive corps injuries or the speed and intensity of Ottawa.
The Wild just failed to execute against by a determined, intense Blues team which included a huge, effective Dmen roster.
And the Caps finally dispatched a youthful and well coached (who maxmized the players’ performance) team, the Leafs.
Ducks easily eliminated a “Bubble Team” - - the Flames.
