Well that was a surprise. Anyone see the look of the Montreal fan in the crowd after they picked a player who could have gone as low as number 10. As much as the Wings need a D-man you can't pass on Zadina.
I've always liked to see trades at the draft but maybe GMs are not looking to get fleeced by the other guy so everyone stands pat. We'll see. Lots of time left.

two great picks by the Wings. A steal as early as the 6th pick. Zadina should not have been available that late. The only downer to this is that Zadina was mad for not being drafted by Montreal or Ottawa as he wanted to play in Canada. He said in a twit after the draft that he is going to fil up the Habs and Sens net for not drafting him tonight.
A bit cocky you might say…
And then at 30th little french Canadian from Drummondville Joe Veleno Who again was not suppose to be available at 30th.
Only positives picks tonight..thanks to AZ who didnt pick the player i thought they would (haydon)

Honestly you can't pass up that deal even though we need D. On the flip side I wondering what people knew that made him drop in out laps?
Cockyiess is something I like in a player who can deliver the goods. If he's pissed at orgs for not selecting him that could be good motivation for filling up their nets with pucks. It worked for me.. a spring league coach (on a team I never played on before) said I was talking in the huddle and wanted me to do pushups. I told him no as I wasn't the one talking he sad do them or leave so I left. Next regular season my team faced his...I scored 5 or 6 goals and has a couple assists at the end of the game I just skated by his bench and told him I bet you wish you didnt try to make me do pushups. Funny thing is I probably would have stayed on that team in the fall, tuned out I made the right decision as we finished higher in state rankings, league standings and went further in state tournamnet

Watching TSN and the way they are reporting the events of the day it appears that this draft is a deep one. Wings have done well thorough the first two rounds and have three third round picks left. I don't mind if they use the picks or if they package them to get a young defenceman already in the league. Giving Holland an "A minus" so far. A package deal that helps the Wings defense will make it a "plus".

Agreed Pierre. Here are our 1998 draft picks:
Jiří Fischer Ryan Barnes Tomek Valtonen Brent Hobday Calle Steen Adam Deleeuw Pavel Datsyuk Jake McCracken
Picked up Pavs and the next year we picked up Hank and that formed the core for our 2008 Stanley and the one the year after, which the league mistakenly handed to Pittsburgh.
