Winner: Red Wings
From. uh, somewhere can't cite the source. Anyway:
Filip Zadina might be the surest scorer in this draft, and somehow -- miraculously -- he fell in the Red Wings' lap at No. 6 overall. This is a winger who can play as soon as this season, even in a top-six role.
The Red Wings then capitalized on another draft faller, when center Joseph Veleno was available at No. 30. Detroit's biggest need was defense, and the Wings addressed that with three defensemen during the next two rounds.
Detroit is embarking on a total makeover, and this draft couldn't have gone any better for GM Ken Holland, who has been on a roll since the trade deadline after bringing in a haul for Tomas Tatar. Apparently, reports of Holland's demise have been greatly exaggerated. The Red Wings being good again is fun for everyone!

Recreational weed is not yet legal across the Detroit River but that would be my guess We landed some really talented kids. I watched the highlight reels of them and like what I see. Now lets develop them into 20 year career NHL'ers I'd like to see some younger players beat out the vets in camp..not thinking this draft as its a big jump from Jr's to bigs but would like to see us continue to get younger and let them play and learn and not fucking with their heads for healthy scratching for a mistake a regular 4 million players makes every other game but never parked/scratched. It has been a while since we had a draft like this, I like it but to be honest I'd rather not go about it by being a basement dweller in the league. We also landed a native Texas (23rd Texan to be drafted by the NHL) in Riley O'Reily...Dallas and the state of Texas is a Hockey state

i've never watched a draft that close. Didnt miss anything...except when O' Reilly came out. When i saw his name on the board i thought it was a trade with Buffalo !
Here in Montréal the fans are mad at the Wings for "stealing" their 3 picks ! Zadina was suppose to land in Montreal, Veleno is from Québec and SHOULD have been pick by Montréal and McIssac too was under the Habs radar.
Poor habs ! i wish them...you know the rest !

From Yahoo sports - grading the 2018 draft:
Detroit Red Wings
Grade: A+
First Round Selection(s): Filip Zadina (6th), Joe Veleno (30th)
Detroit was linked frequently to the top defenders of this draft class, especially since they would have filled an organizational need, but the team had a pair of talented forwards fall into their lap during the opening round of the 2018 NHL Draft. Zadina was too good to pass up at No. 6 and probably should not have fallen that far. He is a dynamic forward with game-breaking offensive abilities. Zadina’s speed and hockey sense makes him dangerous just about every time he is around the puck. Veleno was also a great pickup at No. 30, as he was widely projected to be selected earlier. He has two-way acumen, plays the game intelligently and has the skill set to finish.
The Red Wings added more talent in the second round with Jonatan Berggren (33rd overall) and Jared McIsaac (36th overall). McIsaac is a superb puck mover from the back end who has top-four upside, while Berggren has great two-way upside and top-six forward potential.
Detroit took three players in the third round, including Jesper Eliasson, who was the first of two goaltenders that the team selected. He is set to play for the Vaxjo Lakers HC J20 team next season and the Wings may have reached a bit for him as other netminders were ranked ahead of him. Still, this was a great draft for an organization that desperately needed to stock the cupboard with prospects.

Hi all. Meant to jump in here after draft weekend. The folks who remember me from the TDN days recall that I was a junior hockey billet and after the OHL moved out, we switched over to USA Hockey. So this last two years we had the same two young men living under our roof and since we had skin in the game, we attended our first ever NHL draft this summer. It was interesting being there in person but honestly, it seems like it would be somewhat dull if you didn't have skin in it. With that though, I was mixed on the Wings. I like the guys they picked but can't help feeling like they were still passing on some good defensive talent early in the 2nd round. All in all though, I'm psyched to see what Zadina can do.
Ours went #11 and #32 overall so it was a pretty exciting outing for us. Both went a bit later than expected but I felt like there was a lot of that going around. Proud of these guys though and happy they both went to the eastern conference just because they'll visit LCA more than just once a season. :-)
