I'm going to miss the draft tonight. I'm going to an Iron Maiden concert in Dallas.

Draft starts at 7, so we will be picking at around 7:50 - 8?

Detroit is one of the teams that is "hard" on Hamonic. Asking price - 2 first rounders.

Michael Rasmussen very happy with our first pick. Never thought he'd be available at 9th..
6'6"...That's the kind of size we are not use too....

I like the pick myself but would have prefered a potential top pairing Defenseman. To me that is a gaping hole in our system that happened the day #5 retired...inf fact I would have sacrificed Neilson' 6 million but we fucked ourselves on the deal as no one will take him at that price. The overpaying of mediocre players just to retain or sign is biting us in the ass, Neilson, Abby, Helm. DeKeyser, E, Howard and Green (although I think he had a good season). Now we have to find a way to pay Tatar and AA but we don't have $$$ to overpay.
The kid is 6'6" center who plays like a power forward who isn't a pussy and will go to tough areas, can play all 3 forward positions. 18 years old has a great attitude and appears to be pretty mature for an 18 year old. He seems dedicated to improving his entire game. It will be interesting to see what he can do in training camp. I honestly don't want to see over ripening on the GR vine or send back to Jr's - would love to see him make waves and make the club like Larkin and AA.

We were weak at center, too. And we still have a lot of picks next year as well. It's a process but I think we hopefully filled a big hole.

I understand something like 80% of the guys we picked are over 6' 1". Looks like size suddenly matters again.

I do not know about drafting being our strength. The last time we hit a home run with a late pick was maybe Zetterberg and Dats. I would have liked Rassmussen if Vilardi was not on the board still. At #9 you go high risk high reward and at least try to get a first line center that Vilardi at least potentially could be. You do not draft a player whose ceiling is Brian Boyle according to many and maybe Anders Lee if things go perfect.

By the way, reading a lot about the draft, nobody is giving us good marks with some saying we had a terrible draft. Our best pick universally is considered the goalie we took at #88. But, of course, we will know in 3-5 years on all of them.
