I'd be fine with Green and DeKeyser being dealt. For me Dekeyser was over hyped. He's a decent player but he's not really a top 3 D

I think it goes without saying that Blashill is out. Is Ken Holland today?
Quietly, the NHL BOG ordered a season tickets drive for the rumored Seattle expansion. That was step one just a couple years ago to adding Las Vegas. A franchise isn’t a guarantee now, see Quebec’s bid....but that’s a sign of something to come. Does Holland want to retire with his overall record as GM intact, or would he take a job to run a brand new team?
Tatar and Nyquist both should come up in trade talks. They’re still too similar but at least you can count on Tatar’s spirit.
You’re a better team if you keep Green and get him to re-sign. But who cares really? Maybe you trade and finally call up Russo and learn yup, he zips the puck in there and picks up points as easily as he does in the AHL. Or anyone.
Or you remember that Yzerman’s under contract with Tampa till 2019 and consider that if he’s not extended again, that Chris Illitch will offer him anything to come back. Jamie Samuelson did start that rumor but the Illitch family has a history of filling their office with former red wings

www.nhl.com/news/behind-the-numbers-mike-green-trade-market-comparable-to-kevin-shattenkirk/c-295959612?tid=278387726Well if you are not making the playoffs (still a chance) then you consider all options. Interesting article above suggests that you can get a lot for Green. Dekeyser is younger and not a Free Agent so I don't know if you want to trade him if Green gets dealt. It all depends on what you get in return. Right now the Wings are 7th from the bottom in points and I posted elsewhere that TSN says that the top 6 in the draft are good and then there is a big drop (project type players). If the Wings can't make a late run then I want a top six draft. Someone who can play for the team within a year of the draft and not a 4 year project. Nyquist or Tats - one of these could be traded Either goalie could go as well -ending who is the number one guy here The Wings have always giving up a lot when trading for guys during their great 25 year playoff run. It's time for other teams to reciprocate.

The problem with the idea to just stand pat and make the usual moves to dump veterans you don’t plan to re-up anyway is that the weighted draft lotto is gone. Every teamnout of the playoffs get equal shot at number one and Detroit is probably going to not even be in the top ten again based on that alone.
Other problem: every Red Wing but green has no value but the reports are already coming in that Luke Glendenning is being asked for of all people, but Ken Holland will ask real value for even that guy. So yeah. Green isn’t the only valuable piece. If you’re planning to open up room as the GM, it’s your lower depth chart spots that are most open on defense and offense.
Playoff shot...a good look at the playoffs, you’d want McDonaugh. But for Ken Holland to entertain doing more than just selling, you’d have to be a lot closer than mathematically possible to get in.

FRANzen v Hossa: can we finally remember correctly that the money was there for both players and Hossa simply chose Chicago? Remaining in Detroit maybe better for his health, but let’s stop the fantasy that championships is why anyone ever signed in Detroit. Money. That’s all it ever was.
Erik Cole: Guy you gave up to get him ain’t shit and you can’t hindsight a freak injury to call this a bad trade.
Hudler v Filpula: Filpula was trash and remains so. Hudler goes on to continue to score 20 goals and not see production dip with more responsibility. You make the correct choice here as GM, you’re not even looking at Stephen Weiss or Nielsen at those dollars, or at all, because you’ve already got the veteran you can rely on as Pavel Datsyuk winds down.
Bringing mikael Samuelson back: why? The only signing that year that made sense was Jordan tootoo and then you overloaded the roster so bad, you had to bury him in the AHL for money.
Ian White: the guy playing with Lidstrom is always the second best defenseman. If Ken Holland starts moving then on focusing on bringing in veteran defenseman who can put points up, the defense isn’t so bone dry now. That’s a red wings team scoring more goals and probably winning some more games. Probably still on the bubble, but not on the side out of the playoffs. Instead, this season saw Holland acquiring defense first guys like Quincey and DeKeyser over and over as Kronwall starts to age out of being a top pair guy.
Justin Abdelkader: just imagine Tomas holmstrom scoring 20 goals that way the first time and asking for that contract. Holy crap.
These are the kinds of choices that started the roster looking this bad. It’s giving bad contracts to guys who are decent defensively but rarely score. It’s hoarding players you could have moved for pieces we saw being moved to other clubs that detroit needed. It’s contracts you could have just given to a prospect and took the cap relief for bigger moves later.
Ken Holland has improved the last two years but it’s been how many years since Lidstrom? 6 years ago today there was a 22 game win streak. Chris Illitch will let him stay the course if he wants to come back. That’s how the i’s work.
Keep the goalies if you want but they’re nowhere near the value you’re paying them. But there’s no forward progress happening unless you get more defense who can produce like green, all successful teams have at least 2 guys, and some true heart and soul.
I think Blashill should have been fired middle of his first season. Nhl Blashill is not the guy who came up the ranks. That’s the truth. That was a guy who used his entire roster and player a strategy that used what he had. That’s not what he’s been doing and we’ve seen it since the beginning. He’s coaching like he doesn’t trust anyone, so he’s going back to the dead veteran well because everyone knows that it won’t be your fault if you do that and keep losing.

Only if Holland really made moves. Yzerman taking our players? Slap to the face! Haha

Sordeo, welcome to the board. Dunno, if we take Yzerman's first rounder I'd be OK with that.

We love people sharing our work. I just like to see what others say. We get a lot of different sides of the spectrum. I just never heard of this forum and love chatting about the Wings!
