Justin Abdelkader (fractured cheekbone) practicing yesterday with protective face shield.
Danny DeKeyser (sprained ankle) returns to practice.
Darren Helm and Trevor Daley not practicing today but will play today.
lines at practice:
Mantha-Zetterberg-Nyquist
Abdelkader-Larkin-Tatar
Glendening-Nielsen-Booth (for Helm)
Wilson-Athanasiou-Frk
It won't stay like this when the game starts. Helm will resume his duties on the third line and Booth will be...booth down the 4ht line for Frk who is out with a groin injury.
And if Booth plays on the 4th their is no way AA should stay there. My guess is that good ol Abby will play on the 4th line and AA will join Larks and Tats.
Howard in goal...

Blashill said Helm (lower body) is day to day. With Frk (groin) also out, Booth and Witkowski in. No recalls.

I heard Abby is in for the rematch but will have a football style cage on his lid Frk'nA and Helm both out Every game is a must have, especially against equal or weaker teams

Looking at Calgary top 4 dmen and a group of forwards, I would not call us equal to them on paper. At least Smith is out.

Well...close to equal haha both teams are 4th place their division. We're 8-8-2 and 18pts vs Flames 10-7-0 and 20pts but we played one more game.
Good that Smith is out...maybe we can get some dump ins tonight.
lines from mlive
Anthony Mantha-Henrik Zetterberg-Gustav Nyquist
Tomas Tatar-Dylan Larkin-Andreas Athanasiou
David Booth-Frans Nielsen-Justin Abdelkader
Danny DeKeyser (injured defenseman filling in up front)-Luke Glendening-Scott Wilson

Best first period and probably best game of the year for the Wings.
Watching the Canadian broadcast. They stated that the Red Wing player will get 10 games automatically without pay for coming back on the ice and that it did not make a difference that the Calgary player jabbed him in the leg with a stick. Good thing these guys are not a judge in the legal system
You just have to go back to the Wings last Stanley cup match against Pittsburgh. Malkin was supposed to be suspended and it was automatic for starting a fight at the end of the game. It did not happen enough though that one was cut and dried.
In general the sorry ass losing team is usually the cause of the problem so if any Wing players are suspended then Calgary players need to match.

A very satisfying win to be sure ! A few thoughts...
- Jimmahhs still a little too greasy for his own good. Don't get me wrong - I like it all - but he was too easily provoked tonight. Another solid game for him though.
- Mantha just keeps getting better. Not sure that he had a choice tonight, but don't like to see him swinging. I'd love for him to be the next Shanahan, but not counting on it. - I'm blown away by Larkin's effort this season. Something awakened in him - maybe at the World's last year - but he is looking like the real deal. My biggest concern is that he gets caught with his head down too often - and it's not likely he'll receive less attention as his game progresses. He was everywhere on the ice tonight. Even the Sporstnet guys were gushing over him. - Wish we had three seasons of this year's Mike Green. He's been much better defensively, and the offensive numbers speak for themselves. No one to really step into his place next year if he's gone.
- Haven't posted for a while, but saw Mrazek's last start. He seemed to be giving up rebounds on every shot. And yet he looked great in his shutout.
- Booth looked very slow and tired tonight.
- AA picking up the pace. We've got a fast team upfront when everyone's healthy.
- Nielsen quietly turning into more of the player we had hoped for. He's a poor replacement for FRK on the left point power play though.
First Star - Mantha ! Second Star - Larkin Third Star - Nyquist

There is something going on right now. I don't know but our offensive flow is much better recently, and it's been like this for a few games now.
Again tonight our passing game was much better, our transition improves, not by a lot but still it's fun to watch.
Blashill FINALLY understood that the future goes with more ice time to Mantha-Larks-AA. I think Larks had his best game as a Wings.
When was the last time we spank the Flames like this at home ? We are usually not very good against them.
I'm very happy that no camera caught Mantha while swinging that the player down behind the bench. That's what Galley said because he was behind the bench. That's a no no hitting a player when down on the ice, its no MMA. With a cam shot of this Mantha could get suspended.
Late in the game i thought it was 1997 and not 2017 !

OK, that was fun. Let’s give credit to Blashill for making our young forwards better players. I agree it was Larkin best game I can remember. One negative if I may. Why do you put Larkin, AA and Tatar on the ice with 25 seconds to go in the game when you see all Calgary was looking for is trouble. Glad Tatar did not get injured on that play.

Mantha the goon got 25 penalty minutes.
What I didnt like was Howard getting in the mix and scrapping and no one steppin in on his behalf.
I can't remember the last time we beat a team that badly. I expected it to get chippy with such a large lead but I don't want Mantha and Howard involved. I'm not a fan of Witkowski, he's just an ass and since he really is expendable based on his skill he just goons it up to get noticed and it looked like he started it.
Any suspensions coming?
Blashil has got to have the kids as the go to guys and use Mantha-Larkin-AA as the first PPU.
Bring on Buffalo, Colorado, and Edmonton and rack up some home wins and points.

Luke Witkowski did his job: immediately going at a team that began taking extra chops and more bc of a score out of hand. This is the state the nhl is in. There’s no good discipline. Besides, the red wings teams that could afford that mentality also had guys like Witkowski and better on the ice at all times. Message sent not to Calgary, but to teammates that we don’t get pushed around whether up or down.
Mantha is who he is. You don’t want him to change because that’s when teams treat him like Crosby gets treated.
Linesmen and refs did a horrible job getting Witkowski and Kulak off the ice and keeping flames players away from the detroit bench. It’s better for detroit to address that as a team when it happens than to just let it happen and rely on the refs and supplemental discipline like they used to. That should tell you as a fan that we aren’t that soft and mushy squad anymore, we are the team who can respond again. That’s a team that’s together and playing for each other. But it’s still the job of the guys in stripes to maintain order
